Nelson Mandela's great-granddaughter was killed in a car crash last night on her way home from a concert in Soweto to celebrate the opening of the World Cup in South Africa today.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation said Zenani Mandela, 13, died in an accident involving one car. No one else was injured in the crash.
A police spokesman said Zenani, one of Mandela's nine great-grandchildren, had been travelling with his former wife, Winnie Madikizela.
The former South African president 91-years old. was expected to take some part in today's opening day festivities, although his family is worried about his health.
"The family has asked for privacy as they mourn this tragedy," the foundation said in a statement.
